Commissioning & Acoustic Testing

Post-completion Testing and Verification for Buildings

Acoustic testing and commissioning provide independent verification that completed buildings meet agreed acoustic performance requirements for Building Regulations, planning condition discharge, BREEAM evidence, client handover and design compliance.

Kimber Acoustics undertakes post-completion acoustic testing across a range of building types to verify sound insulation, internal noise levels, reverberation time and building services noise performance. Testing is planned around the relevant compliance route, design criteria and practical site constraints.

Clear test reports are provided for Building Control approval, planning authorities, BREEAM assessors, design teams and client handover records. Where performance falls short, we identify the likely issue and provide proportionate remedial advice so that non-compliance can be resolved efficiently.

Acoustic Testing and Verification Services

Our acoustic testing and commissioning work can include:

  • Sound insulation testing of walls and floors to verify acoustic performance against Building Regulations, planning conditions, design targets or employer’s requirements.

  • Internal noise level testing in occupied and unoccupied spaces, including assessment of building services noise and indoor ambient noise criteria.

  • Reverberation time testing to verify room acoustic performance in education, healthcare, office, residential and shared amenity spaces.

  • Plant noise and building services verification testing to confirm that installed systems meet agreed limits after commissioning.

  • Clear acoustic test reports for Building Control, planning condition discharge, BREEAM submission, client handover or remedial design.

Relevant Standards And Guidance

Approved Document E, BS EN ISO 16283 and BS EN ISO 140 for sound insulation testing; BS EN ISO 3382 and BS EN ISO 354 for room acoustic and absorption testing; BS EN ISO 3741 and BS 4142 for building services and plant noise verification; with sector guidance including BB93 for schools, HTM 08-01 for healthcare and relevant court acoustic criteria where applicable.

Typical Acoustic Testing Deliverables

  • Acoustic test reports for Building Control, planning condition discharge, BREEAM submission, client handover or employer’s requirements

  • Sound insulation, internal noise, reverberation and building services noise test results against agreed criteria

  • Clear statements of compliance, non-compliance and acoustic performance risk

  • Practical remedial advice where testing identifies a shortfall against the required standard

  • Independent verification evidence to support completion, certification and project handover
